SUNYA THORDERSON GROSSMAN

-

On Friday, April 22, 2022, Sunya Thorderson Grossman, age 82, graduated from this life at her home in Las Vegas, to join her beloved parents and other deceased family members. She was born August 14, 1939, in Moab, UT, to her beloved parents David Evans and Helga Solveig Thorderson. The family moved to Modesto. CA, for several years before settling in Berkeley, CA, where she attended public schools and developed her musical talent by taking piano and voice lessons and performing in musical competitions in both piano and vocal events. She also sang for many events in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduating from Berkeley High School, she attended the University of California (Berkeley) and Brigham Young University (BYU), receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree at BYU. Later in life she attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she received a Master of Education degree. After graduating from BYU, Sunya, known as Sunny by her family and friends, was an elementary school teacher in Berkely. While attending the Berkeley University Ward, she met and married Robert (Frank) Grossman on September 15, 1962, In Berkeley. Later that year their marriage was sealed for time and eternity at the Hawaiian Temple in Laie, Oahu. Her husband’s duty assignments with the U. S. Public Health Service took her to Pittsburgh, in 1962, and then to Las Vegas, in 1967. Sunny is survived by her husband Robert (Frank) Grossman, six children; John Robert Grossman, Lisa Diane

Bevell, David Evan Grossman, Glenn Andrew Grossman, and Janis Susanne Grant; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren now (nine total later this year). Anyone who knew Sunny was touched by her musical talent especially our family and those who participated in her choirs she directed and those in which she sang. Our love for her as a family sustains us all and the sadness we all feel is lessened in knowing our family will be together eternally one day.
