JOHN C. RENSHAW, ESQ.

-

John C. Renshaw, Esq. passed away peacefully at his San Francisco home surrounded by loving family and friends in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 21, 2022. John was 86 years old. John was born in Chicago. His family moved to Orange County, CA after WW II. John received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1957 and his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall, in 1961. John was admitted to practice law both in California (1962) and Nevada (1964). In 1964, John joined the Reno law firm of Vargas, Bartlett and Dixon. He became a partner only three years later in 1967.

His specialty was business litigation and he quickly developed a reputation as an extremely smart and effective litigator. Throughout his more than 50 years of practice, John received many awards and accolades for his litigation skills and his commanding courtroom presence including, but by no means limited to, the following: He was voted one of the “Best Lawyers in America, Business Litigation” from 1989-2006. John was a Member of the “American Inns of Court, Bruce Thompson Chapter” from 1986-2022. He served as President of the “Master Emeritus of the Bench” from 1990-1991. And throughout his entire legal career, John received the “Martindale Hubbell AV Preeminent 5.0 peer review rating”, evidencing the highest ratings in both legal ability and ethics. John represented clients both in Nevada and California and was admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and in the US District Courts for both the District Court of Nevada and the District Court of Northern California. John worked at Vargas, Bartlett and Dixon and later Vargas and Bartlett until 1994 when he became a founding partner of the Las Vegas firm of Kummer, Kaempfer,

Bonner and Renshaw, one of the predecessor firms to the present day Kaempfer, Crowell, Renshaw, Gronauer and Fiorentino. Even after his retirement from the active practice of law, John was always a special part of his law firm, continually providing his assistance, guidance and advice whenever asked; and always participating in board meetings and firm functions. In addition, no recreational firm activity was ever complete until John and Mia arrived.

John not just expressed, but actually lived, the values that make not just a great lawyer but a great human being. He was always straightforward and honest. His word was his bond and when John said something, you could take it to the bank. He was also very kind, caring and compassionate. Whatever the cause, whatever the hurt being suffered, you could always count on John to be there with both his heart and his money. In so many ways, John was just the perfect friend. And he was a friend to all who knew him. John was blessed to share 40 years of his life with his beloved Mia. They very much enjoyed their lives together, dividing their time between their home in Las Vegas and their home in San Francisco. They also loved to travel and over the many years together visited all seven continents, including taking a Russian icebreaker to Antarctica. Their favorite adventures included safaris in Zambia and exploring northern and southern India. Mia and John also enjoyed opera and symphonies and attended them throughout the world. John is survived by his beloved wife, Mia, his beloved children, Lynn Warne, Leslie Reising and Jeffrey Renshaw, and by 6 grandchildren. A celebration of his wonderful life is planned for Las Vegas later in the year. John was very supportive of many charitable organizations, and throughout the years a favorite of his was “Canine Angels Support Team” out of Grants Pass, OR. This organization provides service dogs to children in need and also provides children with the training they need to live and work with their service dog. Any donation in his name would be most welcomed and appreciated. “Canine Angels Support Team” website: http:// canine-angels.org/
