Bressler pitches one-hitter, caps softball team’s sweep

Jenny Bressler pitched a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts, and Denise Armendariz and Lauryn Barker homered to lead UNLV past host New Mexico

5-0 on Sunday, capping a three-game Mountain West softball series sweep. Bressler (22-6), who threw 97 pitches, struck out the side in the fifth and issued one walk — in the sixth. The lone hit by the Lobos (25-22, 5-13) was Briana Martinez’s single in the second. Armendariz had a two-run single in the first and homered in the seventh for two of the eight hits by the Rebels (35-11, 13-5). Barker hit a two-run homer in the sixth.

■ Baseball: At Colorado Springs, Colo., Braydon Altorfer hit a tying tworun homer to start the scoring in Air Force’s eight-run seventh inning in its 14-4 win over the Rebels. The Falcons (22-22, 10-11 Mountain West) had three hits and drew six walks in the eighth while capping a three-game series sweep. Trayden Tamiya and Blake Covin each had two hits and three RBIS for

Air Force. Rylan Charles went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Edarian Williams went 2-for-3 with a homer for UNLV (29-16, 17-7), which matched the Falcons’ 10 hits.

■ Football: Former Rebels quarterbac­k Armani Rogers signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted rookie free agent to play tight end. The 6-foot-5-inch Los Angeles native played in parts of three seasons with UNLV after redshirtin­g. He was named Mountain West freshman of the year in 2017. Rogers rushed for 1,549 yards and 18 touchdowns and passed for 2,465 yards and 18 TDS with the Rebels before transferri­ng to Ohio.

■ Men’s golf: At Bremerton, Wash., Caden Fioroni closed with a 1-under-par 71 for a 1-over 217 total to tie for 20th in the Mountain West championsh­ip’s 54-player field. The Rebels shot 5-over 293 in the final round to finish at 25over 889 and 10th in the 11-team field, 47 strokes behind champion San Diego State.
