Hopkins to miss 6 games for violating PED policy

-

Three time All-pro receiver Deandre Hopkins has been suspended without pay for six games for violating the

NFL’S policy on performance-enhancing substances. The league announced the suspension of the Arizona Cardinals star Monday.

Hopkins will be allowed to participate in the team’s preseason practices and games.

Hopkins played in 10 games last season, catching 42 passes for 572 yards and eight touchdowns. He missed much of the last half of the season — including the team’s playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams — because of hamstring and knee injuries.

■ Saints: New Orleans reached a three-year, $33 million deal with All-pro safety Tyrann Mathieu, according to reports. Mathieu, who left the Chiefs, will get $18 million in guaranteed money.

■ Browns: An independent investigation launched by the league found no evidence Cleveland purposely lost games during the 2016 and 2017 seasons as former coach Hue Jackson claimed. The league said that a 60day independent review determined “none of the allegations could be substantiated.” Former U.S. Attorney and SEC Chair Mary Jo White led the investigative team. Jackson had claimed Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam incentivized people in the organization to lose over a four-year period.

■ Chiefs: Kansas City placed an unrestricted free-agent tender on defensive end Melvin Ingram, and they traded for Houston cornerback Lonnie Johnson to add a former second-round pick to their remade secondary. Also on Monday, the Chiefs signed undrafted free-agent Clemson wide receiver

Justyn Ross, who was once viewed as a potential first-round pick before a spinal disorder threatened his career.

■ Bengals: Cincinnati re-signed its longest-tenured player, punter Kevin Huber, to a one-year contract for the 2022 season. He finished 2021 with 207 career regular-season games played as a Bengal, tied with cornerback Ken Riley for most in team history.

■ Falcons: Running back Mike Davis was released Monday by Atlanta.

The team also re-signed Cordarrelle Patterson, who became one of the team’s biggest offensive options lining up at both running back and receiver.

■ Steelers: Pittsburgh declined the fifth-year option on inside linebacker Devin Bush, meaning he can become a free agent next spring.
