Kings score late, stun Oilers in Game 1

EDMONTON, Alberta — Phillip Danault scored at 14:46 of the third period, leading the

Los Angeles Kings to a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night in Game 1 of the teams’ first-round playoff series.

Trevor Moore and Alex Iafallo each had a goal and assist for the Kings. Brandon Lemieux also scored.

Connor Mcdavid and Kailier Yamamoto each had a goal and assist for Edmonton. Leon Draisaitl rounded out the scoring with a power-play goal.

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick made 35 saves. Mike Smith stopped 31 of 35 shots for Edmonton.

Game 2 is Wednesday in Edmonton. The series shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Friday.

■ Hurricanes 5, Bruins 1: At Raleigh, N.C., Seth Jarvis and Nino Niederreit­er scored second-period goals while Antti Raanta was strong in net for Carolina in Game 1 of its firstround playoff series. Raanta had 35 saves in his first career postseason start with No. 1 goaltender Frederik Andersen sidelined by injury. Jarvis and Niederreit­er scored roughly two minutes apart to finally break a scoreless tie. Taylor Hall scored and Linus Ullmark had 20 saves for Boston.

■ Blues 4, Wild 0: At St. Paul, Minn., former Golden Knights wing David Perron had a hat trick and an assist to lead St. Louis past Minnesota in Game 1 of its first-round series. Perron missed the playoffs last year with COVID-19. Ryan O’reilly scored, Torey Krug added three assists and Ville Husso made 37 saves for the shutout in his postseason debut for the Blues. Perron scored on the first two power plays for St. Louis. The Blues went 6 for 6 on the penalty kill.

■ Maple Leafs 5, Lightning

0: At Toronto, Auston Matthews had two goals and an assist to back Jack Campbell, who made 23 saves in the second playoff shutout of his career in Game 1 of Toronto’s first-round playoff series. Mitch Marner had a goal and two assists. Andrei Vasilevski­y stopped 29 shots for Tampa Bay.
