FREDERIC ARMIEN SCHWAGER

-

Frederic Armien Schwager, born August 15, 1937, to Armien and Sylvia Schwager in Hartland Wisconsin. Frederic died April 27, 2022 of Lewy Bodies Dementia. Raised during World War II, Fred was a "fighter" throughout his life; he conquered polio at age 12 and Rheumatic Fever the following year. While attending Hartland High School, Fred played on the basketball team which sparked his life-long passion for “pick-up” basketball games. Beginning early on and continuing during his life Fred was an avid bowler and golfer and he was always ready to share his talents with others; He sang at weddings and in the German Lutheran Church Choir, shoveled snow and gardened for others, he was an all-around Good Guy. Ever the jokester, during his senior year in high school, Fred and a friend bought a case of Milwaukee beer, drove to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, had their picture taken presenting the Milwaukee beer to the Mayor of New Orleans. Fred was a "Doer.” Fred attended the University of Wisconsin-milwaukee attaining his Electrical Engineering Degree. While at UWM Fred spent his spare time working with his father in the family electrical contracting business. He graduated in 1959, sold his 1956 Nash Station Wagon and headed to California. Once there, he got a master’s in Business Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. California was good to Fred. During his 30-year career with Mattel Corporation, Fred authored several US patents and managed quality efforts in the toy, electrical controls and aerospace instrumentation industries. In his career, Fred developed a passion for the emerging business strategy of “Total Quality Management.” Fred was a founding member of the Community Alliance for Total Quality serving the entire South Bay California community. A marriage in his thirties, gifted Fred with a ready-made family. His first wife, Jackie had two, young daughters, Jere and Kathryn, who completely embraced him as their wise and dear father. Fred’s next chapter began in 2000 with a business meeting at The Bagel Café, in Las Vegas, NV with Lou Gamage to discuss the formation of a new non-profit called the Nevada Quality Alliance. This alliance was instrumental in bringing the Malcom Baldrige award to the State. Who would think that this meeting would lead to almost 21 years of marriage for Fred and

Lou? She was there every moment during happy times, travels around the world, and she never missed a beat during Fred’s too long illness. Fred and Lou joined the Las Ventanas community in 2014 where Fred enjoyed working out, playing pool and socializing with his new friends. Fred’s family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Fred’s caregivers, nurses and staff at “The Grove” in Las Ventanas for their compassion and care for Fred.
