- Staff and wire reports

MCKINNEY, Texas — Sebastian Muñoz made some PGA Tour history Thursday, shooting a 12-under 60 in the opening round of the Byron Nelson to become the first player ever with two rounds of 60 or better in the same season.

Muñoz, who also had a 60 in the opening round of the the RSM Classic at Seaside in Georgia in November, played his final 10 holes in 10 under, with two eagles, six birdies and two pars.

He holds a four-shot lead over four players, including defending champion K.H. Lee, Mita Pereira, Justin Lower and Peter Malnati. Kyle Wilshire is another shot back.

“It’s a great feeling whenever everything is clicking, hitting the tee shots, ball is coming out in the window that you imagined, the putts, that you’re reading good,” Muñoz said. “When everything is going, it’s just stay out of the way and just kind of let it happen.”

After making his only bogey at No. 8 to drop to 2 under, Muñoz eagled No. 9, birdied 10 and 11, and eagled No. 12 by hitting a 4-iron to 5 feet. He added four more birdies at Nos. 14, 16, 17 and 18.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who grew up a few miles from TPC Craig Ranch in the Dallas suburbs, opened with a 67.
