Dodgers surge in ninth, avoid sweep by Phils

-

LOS ANGELES — Gavin Lux atoned for an early fielding mistake with a two-out, two-run, walkoff double in the ninth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a four-game series sweep with a 5-4 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday.

Cody Bellinger hit a two-out triple off Corey Knebel (0-3) and Chris Taylor walked before Lux drove them both home with a double to the rightfield corner.

Lux made a two-out error on a routine grounder in the second inning, allowing the Phillies to score four unearned runs. Aaron Nola left with a 4-2 lead after throwing seven innings of four-hit ball, but Philadelphia’s latest bullpen misadventure doomed its four-game win streak.

Mookie Betts had a homer and an RBI double for the Dodgers, who avoided their first five-game skid since April 2019. Shane Greene (1-0) pitched two scoreless relief innings in his season debut for Los Angeles.

Rhys Hoskins had a two-run single for the Phillies, who fell just short of the franchise’s first four-game sweep at Chavez Ravine since 1985.

■ Cardinals 15, Giants 6: At St. Louis, Yadier Molina homered and drove in four runs for St. Louis, which let slugger Albert Pujols pitch the ninth inning. The 42-year-old allowed a three-run homer and a solo shot before getting three outs.

■ Tigers 5, Orioles 1: At Detroit, Miguel Cabrera had two hits, including his 505th homer, drove in two runs and scored twice to back Tarik Skubal (32), who struck out 11 in six shutout innings.

■ Rangers 7, Red Sox 1: At Arlington, Texas, Adolis Garcia hit a three-run homer and a two-run shot, and Kole Calhoun had two solo shots. Texas didn’t have a hit until the fifth.

■ Rays 3, Blue Jays 0: At St. Petersburg,

Fla., three-time Gold Glove third baseman Matt Chapman’s throwing error led to two unearned runs in Tampa Bay’s three-run sixth.

■ Cubs 3, Diamondbacks 2: At Phoenix, Patrick Wisdom homered in the Chicago second, doubled in the ninth and scored on Frank Schwindel’s go-ahead single.

■ Angels 4, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run homer in the first to back Patrick Sandoval (2-1), who allowed one run in 6⅓ innings.

■ Brewers 7, Marlins 3: At Miami, Kolten Wong homered, singled, drew three walks and stole two bases for Milwaukee in his 1,000th major league game.

■ Padres 7, Braves 3: At Atlanta, Ha-seong Kim hit a go-ahead RBI double and Will Myers a tworun single in San Diego’s four-run 11th.

■ Twins 3, Guardians 1: At Minneapolis, Byron Buxton and Gio Urshela homered to back Joe Ryan (4-3), who allowed one run in six innings.
