CALGARY, Alberta — Matthew Tkachuk had a hat trick for Calgary, which blew a four-goal lead before recovering for a 9-6 win over Edmonton in Game 1 of a second-round series Wednesday.

Blake Coleman scored two goals, and Andrew Mangiapane and Rasmus Andersson each had a goal and two assists for the Flames, the No. 1 seed from the Pacific Division. Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves.

Connor Mcdavid had a goal and three assists, Zach Hyman scored twice, and Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists for the Oilers, the Pacific’s No. 2 seed. Mike Smith allowed three goals on 10 shots before being replaced in the first period by Mikko Koskinen, who made 32 saves.

After Kailer Yamamoto scored Edmonton’s fourth straight goal to tie it 6-6 at 1:28 of the third period, Andersson put Calgary back in front at 2:57 when he chipped in and shot short side over Koskinen’s left shoulder from the right circle.

Tkachuk shot five-hole on a partial breakaway to extend the lead to 8-6 at 8:55. He then scored into an empty net at 17:49.

Elias Lindholm gave the Flames a 1-0 lead 26 seconds into the first period when his shot went in off Smith’s glove, and Mangiapane scored 25 seconds later to make it 2-0 off a pass by Mikael Backlund from behind the net.

The two goals scored in 51 seconds are the fastest to start a playoff game in NHL history.

OT: At Raleigh, N.C., defenseman Ian Cole scored at 3:12 of overtime to cap Carolina’s late surge to a 1-0 series lead.

Sebastian Aho scored to tie it at 1 with 2:23 left in the third period to back Antti Raanta, who stopped 27 shots.

Filip Chytil scored in the first period for New York to back Igor Shesterkin, who had 24 saves.

“Kudos to our guys. They got it going in the third period,” said Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’amour, whose team is unbeaten at home in these playoffs. “We’re not going to get away with that, not playing two periods and expect to win a game — especially at this time of year against that team.”
