Jets strike late, spoil debut of QB Pickett with Steelers

Rookie Breece Hall ran for a 2-yard TD with 16 seconds left as the visiting New York Jets spoiled quarterbac­k Kenny Pickett’s Steelers debut with a 24-20 victory.

The Jets (2-2) won in Pittsburgh for the second time in franchise history after QB Zach Wilson — making his season debut — led them down the field late after the second of Pickett’s three intercepti­ons with 3:42 to go. Wilson threw for 252 yards and a TD with two intercepti­ons. He also became the first Jets QB to catch a TD pass.

Pickett, a rookie first-round draft pick, replaced shaky starter Mitch Trubisky after halftime, when the Steelers (1-3) trailed

10-6. Pickett was 10 of 13 passing for 120 yards. He also became the first NFL QB to run for two TDS in his debut.

■ Chargers 34, Texans 24: At Houston, Justin Herbert threw for 340 yards and two TDS, and running back Austin Ekeler scored three TDS for Los Angeles (2-2), which scored on five of its first six possession­s and led 27-7 at halftime. Davis Mills threw for 246 yards and two TDS with two intercepti­ons for Houston (0-3-1), which scored in the fourth quarter for the first time this season. Texans rookie Dameon Pierce ran for 131 yards and a TD.

■ Titans 24, Colts 17: At Indianapol­is, Derrick Henry ran for 114 yards and a TD for Tennessee (2-2), which beat Indianapol­is (1-2-1) for a fourth straight time for the first time and moved to 11-2 against AFC South foes since 2020. The Titans, who led 24-3 in the second quarter, were shut out in the second half for a second straight week. Colts tight end Mo Alie-cox had six catches for 85 yards and two TDS.
