ROBERT LLOYD MUIRHEAD
Bob Muirhead was born on November 22, 1924 in Bartlesville, OK to Brian Robert Muirhead and Ruth Aller Muirhead. He passed away on August 28, 2022. He graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA in 1943, was immediately drafted into the US Army and later assigned to the US Army Air Corps. In 1944, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Bob then attended Kansas State University, pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He returned to Shreveport to work for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation. In 1951, he married Donna Gauthier, was recalled to the USAF to serve in the Korean War and promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He flew in 25 nighttime bombing missions over North Korea, and was awarded the Air Medal for his accomplishments under fire. In 1952, he and Donna settled down and had three children. He served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 92 for many years. In 1965, the family moved to Las Vegas, where he worked for Southwest Gas and was a member of Trinity UMC. He retired in 1988 as Senior Vice President of Engineering and Gas Supply. After retirement, he and Donna moved to Lakeway, TX. In 1993, he married Shirley Hartfelder. They travelled worldwide and in 2004 moved to Fort Worth. Sadly, Shirley passed in 2015. In 2016, he met Sylvia Hampton. Sylvia’s unconditional love and gracious care allowed Bob’s last few years to truly be golden years. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and brother, David. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Dillon; children, Jane Sullivan (Jay) of Dallas, TX, Brian Muirhead (Treva) of Granbury, TX and Adair White of Calgary AB, Canada; grandchildren Leslie Sharp (Jeremy) of Weatherford, TX, Pamela Hernandez (Guillermo) of Dallas, TX, Sarah Eve White and Oliver White of Calgary, AB; great grandchildren Odysseus Muirhead, Owen Sharp, Celeste Hernandez and Benjamin Hernandez, and his very special friend and devoted companion Sylvia Hampton. A memorial service will be held at Arborlawn UMC in Fort Worth on October 8 at 10:30 am in the Elizabeth Kramer Chapel, followed by a reception at the church. His ashes will be interred at a later date in a family cemetery in Dresden, KS, next to his beloved father. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, The James L. West Center for Dementia Care, or Bright Focus/ Macular Degeneration Research Group.
