Nevada fishing report

-

■ Lake Mead — Anglers are getting out later in the mornings to fish for black bass, stripers and catfish. Shore fishing near Las Vegas Bay and boating around the Boulder Islands has been great for landing striped bass. Stripers are hitting anchovies, shad and jointed swimbaits.

■ Lake Mohave/willow Beach — Stocked rainbow trout continue to attract weekend anglers. Jointed trout swimbaits have landed double-digit stripers. Catfish are active in coves from Cottonwood Basin to Davis Dam. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are hitting jigs and plastics.

■ Laughlin — One-pound stripers are taking anchovies from anglers in boats and from shore above Big Bend. Larger stripers have been caught a couple of feet down on swimbaits and white Bomber Long-a lures. Trout are biting through Casino Row. Black bass hiding in coves are hitting plastics along the shelves.

■ Las Vegas urban ponds — Fishing has been slow but should pick up in the coming days. Hot dogs and night crawlers have worked well for catfish. The last seasonal catfish plant is expected after the Nevada Day weekend.

■ Kirch Wildlife Management Area

— Afternoon winds have made fishing difficult. The best action has been in the mornings and late afternoons when the winds are calmest. Rainbow trout have been hitting rainbow Powerbait, night crawlers, spinning lures and spoons. Water levels are steady, and road conditions are good.

■ Eagle Valley Reservoir — Tento 12-inch rainbow and tiger trout have been caught from the shore and boats. Bass are most active in the late afternoons and evenings. Trout action has been best in the mornings when temperatures have dropped below freezing. Anglers are using worms and Powerbait with great success.

■ Echo Canyon Reservoir — Water levels have been up and down, creating muddy shorelines. But the water is clearing as summer vegetation disperses. Rainbow trout will hit small spinners and pink, orange and green Powerbait. Darkcolored Woolly Buggers are effective for trout and bass.
