Nevada fishing report

-

■ Lake Mead — Shoreline access has improved with water levels up slightly. Shad have been caught in Government

Wash, which has been the most productive area for live bait. Stripers have been found in coves along steep canyon walls in 30 to 50 feet of water. A few black bass have been caught with watermelon-colored plastics out of Callville Bay.

■ Lake Mohave/willow

Beach — Rainbow trout are stocked Thursdays or Fridays near the Willow Beach marina. Coves north and south of Cottonwood Cove have produced 1- to 3-pound striped bass. Stripers have been caught with trolled anchovies and swimbaits in trout and shad colorations. Black bass are hitting jointed swimbaits and plastics.

■ Laughlin — Rainbow trout have been hitting sunset Powerbait and silver spinners near Big Bend State Recreation Area and along Casino Row. Stripers will be found close to the trout, so look for areas where the current switches direction or for shadows in the water. Five-pound stripers have been caught with swimbaits.

■ Las Vegas urban ponds — Seasonal trout plants have begun at the Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Sunset and Veterans Memorial Park ponds. The fish have been taking baits and lures, including rainbow Powerbait, night crawlers and No. 1 Mepp’s and Rooster Tails.

■ Kirch Wildlife Management Area — Skim ice lines the shorelines in the mornings. Warm afternoon temperatures open pockets of water. Any ice is not safe for fishing. Avoid cloudycolored ice, as the less clear the ice, the more hazardous it is.

■ Eagle Valley Reservoir — Trout and crappies are hitting night crawlers and jigs. Ice is forming along the northern edges but isn’t thickening. Verify ice conditions before venturing out. Contact Spring Valley State Park at 775-962-5102 for up-to-date ice conditions.

■ Echo Canyon Reservoir — Shoreline ice thinned out over the weekend because of warm daytime temperatures. Verify conditions before venturing out. Contact Echo Canyon State Park at 775-962-5103 for up-to-date ice conditions.
