WALLACE “WALLY” KOLBERG December 12, 1935-October 8, 2022

-

Our beloved Wally blessed his family and friends with his contagious zest for life. We are devastated by his loss, and he will be forever remembered in our hearts. Wally was raised in San Diego by his parents, Clara Kverno Kolberg and Wallace Arnold Kolberg. He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from San Diego State College in 1958, and married Carol Lee Davis Kolberg, his first steady girlfriend from the age of 13. They were married 64 years and raised three children. Wally’s career took them from San Diego to Los Angeles, and then to Las Vegas in 1960, where he was an executive at Southwest Gas for 43 years. A member and past president of Kiwanis for 50 years, Wally helped establish the Desert Demonstration Garden, which is now the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. Wally’s interests included traveling through six continents with Friendship Force, Sons of Norway, Griffith Methodist Church, hunting, fishing, founding the Southern Nevada Fly Fishing Club, hiking, bridge, photography, singing tenor with several choirs, silversmithing, square dancing, and collecting fountain pens. He was fun-loving, outgoing and exuberant, and he remembered that life is fragile, short and should be lived to the fullest. He had a caring spirit and a generous heart for everyone. Wally’s self-proclaimed greatest achievement was his family. He was a steady presence in their lives and enjoyed sharing both daily activities and many exciting family adventures. Along with his wife, Carol, he is survived by his children, Beth Ann Kolberg, Karen Kolberg Sidell (Robert), and Christian Wallace Kolberg (Lara); eight grandchildren, Brooke Bentle Wozniak (Shane), Paige Bentle, Robert Sidell (Mandy), William Sidell, Christine Sidell, Brian Sidell, Christian Parker Kolberg and Justin Kolberg; four great grandchildren, Phoebe, Ada, Chloe and Shiloh Wozniak; and brother Gordon Kolberg (Nancy). A celebration of life will be held in the near future. The family asks that you honor Wally’s memory by living your life to the fullest and blessing someone who could use a helping hand.
