EDWARD NUDD

-

Retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant Edward J. Nudd passed away on December 20, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 85. While his passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by family, the loss was too soon.

Eddie was a proud farm boy who grew up in upstate New York, he loved fishing and hunting. He liked to race motorcycles and cars.

He was a five-time New York State Wrestling Champion, President of his High School Student Council and Valedictorian of his graduating class at Hammondsport High School, Class of 1956. He was awarded the Reginald Wood Memorial Math Award, Bausch & Lomb Science Award and the Joseph Meade Memorial Science Award and Scholarship.

He spent 20 plus years in the United States Air Force as a Master EOD, Senior Missileman and Nuclear Weapons Superintendent. He was stationed from Florida to Alaska to Vietnam, where he did two tours.

While stationed at Orlando Air Force Base, he was named Ninth Air Force Missile Man of the Year and received an engraved key to the city from the Mayor. And while stationed in Vietnam, he was on the front page of the Airforce Times showing him in the field doing what he loved - EOD.

He was awarded the Airman's Medal, Bronze Star Medal with "V" device and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Outstanding Unit Award Medal with "V" device, Air Force Good Conduct with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct with

Bronze Knotted Bar, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Air Force Longevity Service Medal with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal and the Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation Medal.

After retiring from the Air Force, "Boomer" continued his explosives career in the private sector.

A man of strong ideals, he was forever proud of his service to his country, of his family and his many accomplishments. He lived!

The younger family members will lovingly remember his jokes, easy going attitude and penchant for swearing and are proud to carry that on. We are sure wherever he is, he is making sure things are "squared away"!

He is survived by generations of family members, including his sisters Joyce, Rose and Sally; His ex-wife Doreen; Their children Kurt, Richard and Chad; Ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; Countless cousins and extended family members; His girlfriend Sally. Ed was preceded in death by his sister Ruth, brother Billy, sister Nancy and daughter Christina.

No services were held by Ed's request.

In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family requests time and donations be given to DAV and/or St. Jude Children Hospital, which Ed proudly supported.

"Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!"
