Doncic scores 53 in return; Mavericks defeat Pistons

Luka Doncic had 53 points in his return to the lineup after spraining his left ankle in Thursday’s game at Phoenix and then missing Saturday’s game at Utah. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 10 of his 12 in the fourth quarter as the Dallas Mavericks rallied to beat the Detroit Pistons 111-105 at American Airlines Center.

Four of Doncic’s five career 50-point games have come this season. He scored a career-best 60 against the New York Knicks in a game that went to overtime on Dec. 27. Bojan Bogdanovic had 29 points and Saddiq Bey scored 18 for the Pistons.

■ Magic 119, 76ers 109: At Philadelph­ia, Paolo Banchero had 29 points and 10 rebounds as Orlando stormed back from a 21-point first-quarter deficit and stopped a three-game skid. The 76ers’ seven-game winning streak came to an end.

■ Trail Blazers 129, Hawks 125: At Portland, Ore., Damian Lillard scored 42 points for Portland. Lillard has scored 40 points in four of his last eight games. Dejounte Murray had 40 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for Atlanta.

■ Warriors 128, Thunder 120: At Oklahoma City, Stephen Curry had 38 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds for Golden State, which won its third straight. Curry made 8 of 14 3-pointers and 12 of 20 shots overall.

■ Wizards 127, Spurs 106: At San Antonio, Deni Avdija had a career-high 25 points, and Bradley Beal had 21 points as Washington ended a 22-game losing streak in San Antonio.

■ Nets 121, Lakers 104: At New York, Kyrie Irving had 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists as Brooklyn won its second straight.

Morrissey, Scheifele lead Jets in win over Blues

Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele each scored twice in the third period as the Winnipeg Jets rallied for a 4-2 win against the St. Louis Blues at Canada Life Centre. Saku Maenalanen and Kyle Connor each had two assists for the Jets, who snapped a three-game skid. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 24 shots. The Blues have lost five straight.

Texas Tech rallies from 23 down, beats No. 13 Iowa St.

Texas Tech erased a 23-point deficit after halftime for its first Big 12 win of the season, with De’vion Harmon scoring all 16 of his points after the break in an 80-77 overtime victory against No. 13 Iowa State. The Red Raiders (12-10, 1-8 Big 12) trailed 59-36 with 12:36 remaining after one of Caleb Grill’s career-best eight 3-pointers. A 20-3 run started not long after to make it close down the stretch. Grill scored 24 points but had one of three misses from deep in a frantic final sequence with the Cyclones (15-6, 6-3) trying to force a second overtime.
