It is hard to put into words the type of impact Tom Brady had on the NFL during his 23-year career.

Many in the football world attempted to do so Wednesday morning after the 45-year-old announced his retirement — this time, he says, for good.

Brady will step away from the game as a seven-time Super Bowl champion (six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), three-time MVP and 15-time Pro Bowler. He also holds records for most wins by a quarterback (251), passing attempts (12,050), passing completions (7,753), passing touchdowns (649) and passing yards (89,214).

Oh, yeah — and he wasn’t selected until the sixth round of the 2000 draft following his Michigan career.

Here’s what’s being said nationally after Brady announced his retirement in a 53-second video clip on social media.

Buccaneers offensive lineman Ryan Jensen tweeted, “Thanks for pushing me everyday this season mentally and physically to get back on the field. I’m glad I was able to take the field with you one last time! Enjoy retirement, don’t dog me too much in the booth. Love ya man!”recently retired All-pro defensive lineman J.J. Watt tweeted, “Greatest of All Time. No question, no debate. It’s been an honor and a privilege. PS - The newly retired group meets on the golf course every morning at 10am. Drinks are on the new guy, so bring your wallet.”

The Buccaneers’ official twitter account posted a graphic thanking Brady for his three seasons in Tampa Bay.

Former Patriots and Buccaneers teammate Logan Ryan tweeted, “I got to witness greatness daily for years and I’m thankful for that.”

Former Michigan teammate and currently Wolverines radio announcer Jon Jansen tweeted, “Congratulations bud. Happy for you. Thank you for taking all of us on this ride with you.”

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport tweeted, “The greatest of all time, for the second time in two offseasons but this time for good, steps away. My understanding is family considerations played a major role in this decision. Tom Brady wanted to play until 45. And now retires.”

Sports Illustrated senior writer Pat Forde tweeted, “He means it this time, I suspect. Unparalleled run.

Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette tweeted, “Love you Thomas.”
