Nevada fishing report

-

■ Lake Mead — Striped bass have been caught with shad, frozen anchovies and jointed swimbaits in water as deep as 80 feet outside Government Wash. Be prepared for freezing temperatures at sunrise next week, and always check for wind advisories.

■ Lake Mohave/willow Beach — Striped bass and catfish have been most active at sunrise and after dusk, and rainbow trout have been biting in the mornings. Silver swimbaits and Rat-l-traps are catching stripers at Cottonwood Basin’s south end and around Telephone Cove.

■ Laughlin — Striped bass have been caught with jointed silver swimbaits above

Big Bend in the Colorado State Recreation Area. The federal hatchery is planning to stock below Davis Dam this week, so rainbow trout bites will pick up. Rainbow sparkle Powerbait and spinners work best for trout.

■ Las Vegas urban ponds — Unpredictable weather patterns have slowed catch rates despite recent trout plants. Patient anglers are catching trout with Powerbait and worms.

■ Kirch Wildlife Management Area — Recent storms dumped a lot of water atop the reservoirs’ ice, resulting in treacherous conditions. The roads are muddy, so use caution when driving around the area.

■ Eagle Valley Reservoir — Freezing temperatures have kept the ice around 6 inches thick. A few ice fishing groups found success with Powerbait and night crawlers. Contact Spring Valley State Park at 775-962-5102 for up-to-date ice conditions.

■ Echo Canyon Reservoir — The reservoir has more water after recent storms but remains unsafe for ice fishing. Ice along the shoreline is thin. Contact Echo Canyon State Park at 775-962-5103 for up-to-date ice conditions.
