SHEILA GENE LINDQUIST-WHITLOW

-

Sheila Gene Lindquist-whitlow, 58 of Squaw Valley, CA and Las Vegas, NV, tragically died on January 14, 2023 at home in Squaw Valley, CA from complications from knee surgery.

Sheila was born on May 29, 1964 in Denver, CO.

Sheila dedicated her life to saving and caring for animals and taking care of her family. Sheila earned her undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California-santa Barbara and a Masters Degree in Education from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

Sheila worked for over 30 years as a zookeeper and zoo manager at the Denver Zoo, the Phoenix Zoo, the Santa Ana Zoo, the Fresno Zoo, the Living Desert in Palm Desert, CA, the Sierra Endangered Cat Haven in Dunlap, CA, and the White Oak Animal Conservation Center in Florida.

After Sheila retired, she continued caring for animals. She rescued hundreds if not thousands of dogs and cats, finding foster homes and permanent homes for stray and abandoned animals in California and in Nevada. She would go out any time day or night to catch any animal in need and making sure that they were rescued. Shelia seemed to be always transporting a car load of dogs and/or cats to the Southern Nevada Animal Rescue league in las vegas so they could find homes. If she wasn't saving animals, she was walking foster dogs, taking them to the veterinarian or bringing food to their foster homes.

Sheila had countless friends in California, Nevada, Colorado, Florida and Georgia. She was always there to help someone in need. She loved to travel and had recently been to Italy, Alaska and Hawaii with her mother and brother and they had planned a return trip to Italy later this year. She also loved hiking and the entire outdoors, especially the beach.

Sheila was preceded in death by her father Ronald Lindquist of Denver and is survived by her husband Larry Whitlow of Squaw Valley, CA, her mother, Livia Lindquist of Las Vegas, NV and her brother, Ronald Lindquist of Las Vegas, NV.

Services and a celebration of Sheila's life will be held at a later date to be announced in Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Southern Nevada Animal Rescue League in Las Vegas, your local animal shelter or animal rescue.
