Baseball team caps sweep with 27-hit, 31-run assault

Rylan Charles went 5-for-8 with a double and four RBIS to pace a 27-hit uprising as UNLV blitzed Pacific 31-6 to cap a season-opening three-game baseball series sweep Sunday at Wilson Stadium. Santino Panaro went 3-for-5 with the game’s lone home run, a double, five RBIS and five runs for the Rebels (3-0), who had 10 players score multiple runs, eight with multiple hits and eight with multiple RBIS. Starter Joey Acosta held the Tigers (0-3) to one run on six hits in five innings.

■ Softball: At Eller Media Stadium, Denise Armendariz and Janyssa Martin hit consecutiv­e two-out RBI singles to cap the Rebels’ three-run seventh inning as they rallied past Cal State Bakersfiel­d 5-4. Armendariz and Martin each had two hits, and UNLV (6-5) scored three runs on two wild pitches and a throwing error. Karissa Munsey hit a grand slam in the seventh for the Roadrunner­s (28), who were outhit 5-3.

■ Women’s swimming: At Houston, junior Blanka Bokros broke 14-year-old conference and program records in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:55.44 in the preliminar­ies and then finished first in the final in 1:55.81, helping the Rebels place second in the nine-team Mountain West championsh­ips.

■ Women’s tennis: At Fertitta Tennis Complex, Zita Kovacs, Nina Zdravkovic, Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao won in singles and doubles to lead the Rebels (6-0) to a 7-0 victory over Utah Tech (0-8).

■ Men’s tennis: At Seattle, Maxim Verboven lost a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 1-0 (10-7) decision to Han-chih Lin at No. 1 singles as the Rebels (6-3) fell 7-0 to Washington (6-3).
