WANDA BOGER

-

Wanda Boger (Schoen) went to her heavenly home on February 20, 2023. The 47-year resident of Las Vegas shared 92 years on earth with her family and friends. We will miss her friendly and loving nature, her hugs and laughter, her listening ear, her example of Christian faith, and her complete devotion to her family. Wanda Ruth Schoen was born September 28, 1930 in Hodgeman County, Kansas to Carl and Marie Schoen (Peterson). She was the 10th and last child born into this happy family. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1948 with some office training experience, and began working as the principal’s secretary at her high school. On June 3, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart and family friend Glenn Boger, and began what was a beautiful and mutually adoring partnership, lasting for 57 years. Wanda moved with Glenn to different areas as he worked in the farming industry, was in the Air Force, and later as an electronic technician. As a result, each of her children were born in a different state of the US: Michigan, Alabama, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. Wanda did some secretarial work and also worked part-time as a seamstress before her first child was born. The family lived in Finley, North Dakota from 1964 to 1976, where many good life-long friends were made. After the move to Las Vegas in January of 1976, Wanda secured a secretarial position at Las Vegas City Hall, working in the purchasing department for the City of Las Vegas. Later, she was an office manager in the street light department for the city, retiring in 1992. Wanda was a talented musician on the piano and organ. She loved baking, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and growing flowers in her garden. She loved babies, and always made herself available for caring for her grandchildren. Wanda was an active member of a Lutheran church wherever she lived, and was an organist for Mt. Olive Lutheran Church here in Las Vegas for over 20 years. She was also a member of Summerlin Lutheran, and most recently Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran. She volunteered in women’s groups, attended Bible study, sang in choirs, and was often an officer in Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society to support overseas missions. However, her greatest mission was to her children and grandchildren—the love of Jesus shared consistently and unconditionally. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Boger in 2007, her parents, and all her siblings. She is survived by her sons, William (Lori) of Mesa, AZ and Curtis (Lynn) of Pine Island, MN, and daughters Lorna Warling (David) and Barbara Brown (Jimmy). Wanda also leaves 10 grandchildren (Nicole, Ciara, Steven, Timothy, Corinna, Bryan, Kenneth, Amy, Lydia and Erik) and 5 great-grandchildren (Liam, Ryan, Finnley, Stevie Kate, and Noah). A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 3rd at 2:00 pm at Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1799 Wigwam Pkwy, Henderson, NV 89074. Family and Friends are invited to gather in the fellowship hall following the service for a light luncheon and sharing of remembrances. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society or the Christian women’s charity of your choice.
