Benjamin Leroy Sims, 88, of Las Vegas passed away peacefully January 16, 2023 in his home with family by his side.

Leroy, as everyone called him, was born on February 2, 1934 and raised in Tallassee, AL. He was a graduate of Tallassee High School Class of 1952 and enjoyed attending his class reunions. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956 including being stationed in Okinawa, Japan. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1962. He was a Journeyman Electricia­n in the Internatio­nal Brotherhoo­d of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #357 for over 60 years. He worked at the Nevada Test Site for 12 years beginning in the 1960s and worked on many hotel and casino projects. Leroy was an avid college football fan and his favorite team was the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. He also loved his western movies, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Helen Adell Owens Sims, daughter Bonnie Dale Sims Mamer, parents Roy and Edith Sims, sister Ann and brothers Buddy and Baron. He is survived by his son Steve, daughter Laura (and David) Harrop, son Donald Keith (and Dorothy) Sims, five grandchild­ren John, Andrea, Jesse,

Emily and Matthew, many beloved Southern relatives including cousins, nieces and nephews who hosted him on his visits back home and his good union buddies here in Las Vegas. Services will be at 2pm Fri., Mar. 24, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, where he and his wife will be interred together.
