No. 3 Kansas, without ailing Self, rolls past West Virginia
Playing without ailing coach Bill Self on the sideline, third-ranked Kansas turned to big offensive performances from Jalen Wilson and Dajuan Harris Jr. to beat West Virginia 75-61 in a Big 12 tournament quarterfinal in Kansas City, Missouri.
Self, 60, will miss the tournament after going to the emergency room late Wednesday for what doctors called “a standard procedure.” He is expected to make a full recovery.
Wilson had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Harris 13 points and eight assists as the topseeded Jayhawks (26-6) beat the eighth-seeded Mountaineers (19-14) for a third time this season.
■ No. 6 Marquette 72, St. John’s 70, OT: At New York, Tyler Kolek scored all 19 of his points after halftime, including the tiebreaking free throws with 15.8 seconds left, for the top-seeded Golden Eagles (26-6) in a Big East tournament quarterfinal. The eighth-seeded Red Storm (18-15) led by 14 late in the first half.
■ Iowa State 78, No. 10 Baylor 72: At Kansas City, Mo., Gabe Kalscheur hit six 3-pointers and totaled 24 points for the fifthseeded Cyclones (19-12), who overcame an eightpoint second-half deficit in a Big 12 tournament quarterfinal. Jalen Bridges scored 28 points for the fourth-seeded Bears (22-10).
■ No. 22 Texas Christian 80, No. 12 Kansas State 67: At Kansas City, Mo., Mike Miles and Chuck O’bannon each scored 22 points for the sixth-seeded Horned Frogs (21-11) in a Big 12 tournament quarterfinal. They had been ousted by the third-seeded Wildcats (23-9) in four of the past five league tourneys.
■ No. 13 Virginia 68, North Carolina 59: At Greensboro, N.C., Jayden Gardner had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the second-seeded Cavaliers (24-6) in an ACC tournament quarterfinal. The seventh-seeded Tar Heels (20-13), ranked No. 1 in the preseason, shot 35.8 percent.
■ No. 14 Miami 74, Wake Forest 72: At Greensboro, N.C., Jordan Miller had 18 points and nine rebounds for the top-seeded Hurricanes (25-6) in an ACC tournament quarterfinal. Tyree Appleby scored 24 points for the ninth-seeded Demon Deacons (19-17), who erased most of an 18-point second-half deficit.
