THEOFANIS SCHIZAS
Theofanis Schizas, better known as Ted to his family and friends, was a resident of Las Vegas since 1993, coming from Redondo Beach, CA where he was Corporate Director of Workers’ Compensation for Hughes Corporation for 5 years. He previously served similar roles for Northrop-grummon and Macdonalddouglas Corporations. Ted went to high school at Wentworth Military Academy and graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s in International Relations
(’59), then serving in the Army Security Agency, stationed at Ft. Devens, MA. Ted was born in Omaha, NE, of Fred and
Helen Schizas on 11/19/1935 and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Sheryl Clark Schizas, his children, John and Vicki Schizas, and grandson, Jeff Schizas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Anderson and brothers, Dean, John and Andy Schizas. Ted spent most of his adult life working in the Safety, Health, and Workers’ Compensation profession, dedicated to the care and well-being of employees in the workplace and to fair, equitable deliverance, and cost-effective provision of Workers’ Compensation benefits. He provided leadership in corporate and legislative arenas, and played a vital, active role in the reformation of California Workers’ Compensation Laws. He was honored many times during his terms as Chairman of the California Manufacturer’s Association’s Workers’ Compensation Committee and as Co-founder of the Californians for Compensation Reform. Ted shared his expertise by teaching California Workers’ Compensation Law at UCLA’S Business Extension for 15 years. His total enjoyment of his retirement years was envious. His love of life and appreciation of family, friends and pets endeared him to all. He was known as a soft-spoken, kind man, beloved father, and cherished husband – he will be missed.
