BOBBY WILLIAMS

-

Bobby Williams was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and attended Las Vegas High School.

His early career involved driving Trucks for OC Loveland (his father in law), SE Rykoff, and ultimately for himself, under Williams Distributing.

While Bobby and the Love of his Life (Charlene ''Shorty" Williams) were busy working and raising their young family, Bobby discovered Dirtbikes. It wasn't long until the whole family not only had Dirtbikes, but we're actively promoting weekly Motocross Races at their Track, aptly called Williams Raceway.

In 1975, Bobby and Shorty Williams presented Las Vegas kids with their 1st Bicycle Motocross Race, and continued to hold both Dirtbike Motocross as well as Bicycle Motocross Races for many years. As Bobby was generally the guy on the microphone announcing the races, he reached out to friends to learn more about ''public speaking''. In doing so, Bobby and Shorty Williams discovered a group called Toastmasters International. Bobby and Shorty became involved in Toastmasters over the next 30 years, and won speech contests across the

West Coast, as well as across the United States.

In 1979, Bobby closed Williams Raceway, and took a job as a Maintenance Engineer, but Bobby had been ''self employed'' for far too many years to work a normal 9-5 job, so Bobby opened a small Plumbing Company, aptly known as ''The Plumber''.

With the help of Bobby and Shortys 2Sons, 1-Daughter, 1-Daughter in Law, and some very slow growth attracting the BEST Plumbers in the Country, their little Plumbing Company soon became a large Plumbing Company. They recruited Plumbers from across the nation, and were soon building new shopping centers, new schools, and eventually new high rise condos across the valley. This allowed Bobby and Shorty to finally have a few Coin$ and to begin to travel the world, and travel, they DID.

Sadly, Shorty Williams succumbed to cancer in 1999, and passed away, leaving Bobby one sad guy. He married a nice gal too soon, and it didn't work out, But ..... He became reacquainted with a longtime Toastmaster and Family Friend named Judy Poteete, and Bobby once again had that sparkle in his eyes and that smile on his face.

Bobby and Judy continued to travel, attend Toastmasters, and simply Love one another for the rest of Bobbys life.

Bobby and Shorty never really understood the numbers of kids and adults that they positively impacted in the 70s with Williams Raceway.

Kids and Adults that raced Dirtbikes, and BMX, still gather annually at one of the Sons homes, to honor Bobby Williams and chat about old times, racing and growing up in Las Vegas. The average gathering brings 100-200 people together, and the Angel that bound them together is now an Angel in Heaven, and back in the loving arms of Charlene''shorty" Williams.

Bobby is survived by 4- Sons, Robert Williams (Selma), Doug Williams (Che') Michael Williams (Terri), and Donald ''Butch'' Williams (Paula).

He is also survived by 12 - Grandchildren, and 14 - Great Grandchildren .

The Family wishes to express their sincere ''Thanks'' to Judith Poteete, who has been Bobby's companion for many years, and which all of us kids love as a Mother. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests a donation to the American Cancer Society, The Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas, or whichever charity that's in it for the right reasons.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on 2023-03-11 at Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 10550 W. Alta Drive, Las Vegas, NV, 89144.
