President: Packers would honor QB’S trade request

Green Bay president/ceo Mark Murphy said the Packers granted the New York Jets permission to talk with Aaron Rodgers and would honor a trade request if the four-time MVP QB makes one. Jets owner Woody Johnson, coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas visited the 39-year-old Rodgers’ southern California home this week. Murphy said he wanted a resolution on Rodgers’ future by the start of free agency Wednesday.

■ Vikings: Wide receiver Adam Thielen was released after nine seasons. The 32-year-old Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, native played collegiate­ly at Minnesota State Mankato, a Division II program, and signed with the Vikings in 2013 after serving as a tryout player at rookie minicamp. A two-time Pro Bowl pick, Thielen has 534 catches — ranking third in team history behind Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Randy Moss.

■ Dolphins: QB Tua Tagovailoa’s 2024 fifth-year option will be exercised. The 25-year-old set career highs in passing yards, touchdowns, completion percentage and passer rating last season despite missing five games after sustaining two concussion­s. He stands to make a guaranteed $23.4 million in 2024.

■ Patriots: Safety Devin Mccourty retired after 13 NFL seasons, all with New England. The 35-year-old two-time Pro Bowl pick and three-time Super Bowl champion played in 205 regularsea­son games, all starts, and his 24 playoff starts are the most for any NFL defensive back.

■ Obit: Otis Taylor, a two-time All-pro wide receiver who spent his entire pro football career with Kansas City from 1965 to ’75, died Thursday after battling Parkinson’s disease and dementia for a decade, his family said. He was 80.
