NEIL JAMES CALDER SR.

Neil James Calder Sr., 73, died Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from brain cancer in Henderson, Nevada. He was born to Alexander Calder and Janette Wolcott on June 21, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. Neil graduated high school in Livonia, Michigan, then entered the U.S. Army in June 1969. He served as a Light Infantry Weapons Specialist, awarded the National Defense Service Medal and achieved the rank of Sergeant (E5) before being discharged in July 1970. Neil married Susan Ott and they had two children, Neil James Calder Jr. and David Allen Calder. Neil married Michele Lee Desutter on June 1, 1992, and remained with her until his death. Neil worked in fast food for 30 years, starting as a line worker, then franchisee, manager and corporate troublesho­oter in multiple states, for Burger Chef, Church’s Chicken, Winchell’s Donuts and Sizzler. He left the food industry and retired after 21 years with Clark County’s District Attorney, Family Support Division. Neil was an avid golfer (with four holes-in-one and a double eagle), card player and allaround sports enthusiast. You could find him on his favorite recliner every Sunday watching football - Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions. Neil is survived by his wife, Michele Lee Calder; sons, Neil James Calder Jr. and David Allen Calder; stepson, Michael Lee

David Calder, Britney Morgan Calder, Sydney Payton Calder and Brady Alexander Calder. He is also survived by his brothers, George Alexander Calder Gary Lee Calder and Kenneth Alan

Calder. He was preceded in death by his parents, who both died at the age of 98. Memorial service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Palm Eastern Mortuary at 7600 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89123. Pastor

Mark Whelchel will officiate. Refreshmen­ts will be served after. Private interment will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada. Donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice or the American Cancer society in lieu of flowers.
