Cowboys get Gilmore in trade, keep own free agents
The Dallas Cowboys have acquired cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts for a fifth-round draft pick. The trade for the five-time Pro Bowler comes on the same day Dallas re-signed safety Donovan Wilson and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.
The Cowboys will give the Colts a compensatory pick in this year’s draft.
It will be the third team in three seasons for Gilmore, the 2019 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year when he was with New England.
■ 49ers: San Francisco has agreed to a four-year contract extension with starting center Jake Brendel. NFL Network first reported the agreement and said it had a maximum value of $20 million and includes $8 million in guarantees.
■ Colts: Indianapolis will release quarterback Matt Ryan, 37, in a costcutting move. By releasing Ryan, it will save the Colts about $17.2 million in salary cap charges next season and allow it to open free agency with about $30 million of cap space.
■ Chargers: Austin Ekeler’s agent, Cameron Weiss, said that the team has given the running back permission to seek a trade after both sides were unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension. The news comes on the same day Los Angeles agreed to a two-year deal worth $13.5 million with former Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks.
■ Lions: Detroit and former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery reached an agreement on a three-year contract worth $18 million. The deal includes $11 million guaranteed.
■ Panthers: Carolina found its stopgap quarterback, agreeing to a two-year, $10 million contract with former Saints QB Andy Dalton. The deal includes $8 million in guaranteed money.
■ Eagles: Cornerback James Bradberry is returning to Philadelphia. Bradberry, a second-team All-pro, agreed Tuesday to a $38 million, three-year contract
■ Texans: Houston is acquiring guard Shaq Mason and a seventh-round pick from Tampa Bay in exchange for a sixthround draft pick.
■ Saints: New Orleans receiver Michael Thomas agreed to a new oneyear contract worth between $10 million and $15 million for the 2023 season.
■ Dolphins: Miami is bringing back running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr., agreeing on two-year contracts for both players.
■ Vikings: Minnesota reached agreements to bring back center Garrett Bradbury, long snapper Andrew Depaola, kicker Greg Joseph and backup quarterback Nick Mullens, before they were due to hit the open market as unrestricted free agents at the beginning of the new league year on Wednesday.
