Ex-safety Brown arrested, linked to mother’s slaying
Former NFL safety Sergio Brown was arrested in Southern California in connection with the death of his mother, authorities said, as he tried to re-enter the United States from Mexico, four weeks after the 73-yearold woman was found slain behind her suburban Chicago home. The exact charges against Brown were unclear, but a warrant for the 35-year-old’s arrest cited first-degree murder.
Brown, a Notre Dame product, played in the NFL from 2010 to ’16 with New England, Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Buffalo.
■ Browns: Quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) remained sidelined at practice, and P.J. Walker — currently on the practice squad — was moved ahead of rookie Dorian Thompson-robinson as Watson’s backup, coach Kevin Stefanski said. Thompson-robinson, a Bishop Gorman product, struggled in his first NFL start in place of an injured Watson in Week 4. Walker, 28, went 4-3 in seven starts with Carolina over the past three years.
■ Dolphins: Rookie running back De’von Achane (knee) was placed on injured reserve and is expected to return this season, coach Mike Mcdaniel said. The 21-yearold third-round draft pick from Texas A&M leads the NFL with 12.1 yards per carry and is second in yards rushing with 460 despite having 61 fewer carries than league leader Christian Mccaffrey (510) of San Francisco.
■ Colts: Quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve, and the 21-year-old rookie is expected to be sidelined four to eight weeks, depending upon his rehabilitation and whether surgery is required. The draft’s No. 4 pick, Richardson has started four games but finished only one.
■ 49ers: The NFL is considering fining tight end George Kittle for the T-shirt he wore under his uniform in Week 5 that contained a profane message about Dallas, ESPN reported. The four-time Pro Bowl pick revealed the shirt while celebrating during San Francisco’s 42-10 win over the Cowboys.
■ Giants: Quarterback Daniel Jones
(neck) and former Raiders tight end Darren Waller (groin) were among seven starters held out of practice, and their status for Sunday is uncertain, coach Brian Daboll said.
■ Bills: All-pro linebacker Matt Milano (leg) and nose tackle Daquan Jones (pectoral) were placed on IR. Both require surgery and are sidelined indefinitely, coach Sean Mcdermott said.
