Commissioner Goodell lands extension through March ’27

-

Commissioner Roger Goodell received a contract extension through March 2027, the NFL said. The 64-year-old’s current deal was to expire in the spring of 2024. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Goodell reportedly made $63.9 million for the 201920 and 2020-21 seasons. He has served as commissioner since succeeding Paul Tagliabue in 2006. Goodell began his NFL career as an administrative intern in 1982 under thencommissioner Pete Rozelle.

■ Cardinals: Quarterback Kyler Murray was designated to return from the physically unable to perform list and practiced for the first time since sustaining a torn ACL in his right knee Dec. 12. The 26-year-old two-time Pro Bowl pick can be activated at any time during the next 21 days. Also, two-time All-pro safety Budda Baker (hamstring) was designated to return from injured reserve after being sidelined the past five games.

■ Chiefs: Wide receiver Mecole Hardman and a

2025 seventh-round draft pick were acquired from the New York Jets for a 2025 sixth-rounder. The 25-yearold spent his first four

NFL seasons with Kansas City, which drafted him in the second round in 2019, before signing a one-year, $4 million deal with the Jets in March. He played 28 offensive snaps and totaled one catch in five games with New York.

■ Browns: Quarterback Deshaun Watson still can’t practice because of a rotator cuff injury in his throwing shoulder sustained Sept. 24 that has sidelined him for two games. Speaking publicly for the first time since Sept. 27, the 28-year-old three-time

Pro Bowl pick clarified that his injury is a strain and not a contusion, as the team had reported, and said he can’t put a timeline on when he can return.

■ Colts: Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will undergo season-ending surgery to repair his throwing shoulder. This year’s No. 4 draft pick, Richardson hasn’t played since sustaining an AC joint sprain Oct. 8. In four games, he threw for 577 yards and three TDS with one interception and ran for 136 yards at an average of 5.4 per carry and four TDS.

■ Dolphins: Cornerback Jalen Ramsey practiced for the first time since sustaining a torn meniscus in his left knee in July that required surgery. The team has until

Nov. 7 to activate the 28-year-old six-time Pro Bowl pick, or he will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season. Ramsey won’t play Sunday, coach Mike Mcdaniel said.

■ Giants: Quarterback Daniel Jones practiced for the first time since sustaining a neck injury Oct. 8, but the 26-year-old’s status for Sunday is uncertain because he has yet to be medically cleared for contact.
