Local resident Morikawa ends drought, wins Zozo
Las Vegas resident Collin Morikawa ended a 27-month winless streak on the PGA Tour by surging to a six-stroke victory at the Zozo Championship in Inzai, Japan. The 26-year-old closed with a 7-under-par 63 for a 14-under 266 total. Beau Hossler (70) and Eric Cole (70) tied for second. Las Vegas resident Justin Suh (74), who held his first 54-hole lead on tour, finished nine shots back. Morikawa, a two-time major champion, notched his sixth tour win.
■ LPGA: At Seoul, South Korea, Minjee Lee withstood Alison Lee’s late rally to beat the Las Vegas resident on the BMW Ladies Championship’s first playoff hole. Alison Lee, seeking her first tour win, closed with a 5-under 67 to tie Minjee Lee (68) at 16-under 272, two shots better than defending champion and third-place finisher Lydia Ko (69). Minjee Lee, 27, notched her 10th tour title and second in her past three starts.
■ Champions: At Richmond, Va., Harrison Frazar bested Richard Green on the Dominion Energy Classic’s first playoff hole for the 52-year-old Texan’s first tour title. Frazar and Green each closed with a 3-under 69 and an 11-under 205 total.
■ DP World: At San Roque, Spain, Adrian Meronk became the tour’s first three-time winner this year, closing the Andalucia Masters with a 6-under 66 for a 16-under 272 total and a one-shot victory.
■ Obit: LPGA Hall of Famer Betsy Rawls died Saturday. She was 95. A
South Carolina native, Rawls won 55 times on tour, and her eight major titles include a record-tying four in the U.S. Women’s Open.
■ LIV: At Doral, Fla., Anirban Lahiri shot 7-under 65 and Bryson Dechambeau 67 to lead the Crushers to a two-stroke victory over the Rangegoats in the team championship final.
