A. WAYNE CARTER

-

Henderson, Nevada - A. Wayne Carter, 84, ascended peacefully to the heavens on September 22, 2023. Wayne was born May 8, 1939, in Kelliher, Saskatchewan, Canada to Rev. Dr. Alfred Carter and Elfreda Westad Carter. Wayne married Diane Rice on July 18, 1987 in Columbus, Mississippi.

A charismatic soul, Wayne sought to put the spark into and pull the spark out of everyone he met. With a gift for humor, often without an edit button, Wayne pumped life into moments. He saw each person as an equal, with their own beauty. He was authority wrapped in kindness, shared with an omnipresent attention to detail. Wayne never failed at being present and in the moment.

After undergrad at the University of Puget Sound and law school at Willamette, Wayne entered the Air Force as a JAG officer, serving over 20 years and achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. His duties included prosecution and defense for civil and military trials, chief trial counsel for 5-state area, base legal advisor, and recruiter. Following his retirement from the USAF, Wayne entered civilian life as a practicing attorney in Las Vegas for many years and enjoyed his time as the Clark County Bar Association President in 2010. Apart from work life, Wayne had an athletic and adventurer's spirit, from backpacking the Washington coast, climbing and summiting Mt.

Rainier, sailing the San Juans, running the Honolulu marathon, playing tennis and golf in the Vegas heat, and consistently visiting our National Parks. A talented piano player, Wayne loved Jazz, and, like Frank Sinatra, he did it his way.

Wayne is survived by his wife Diane Carter, children Brett Carter (Michelle), Renee Rodriguez (Bobby), Marian Hinson (Jamie) and Lisa Britton (Vince); grandchildren Lauren, Evan, Alicia, Courtney, Joshua, Jacob, Victoria and John Hunter; great grandchildren Mason, Maddie, and Jessie-kate; and sister Carole Mcclimon and brother Ellis Carter (Joann). He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Alfred Carter and brother Terry. Funeral services will begin 1:20 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive in Boulder City, NV.
