49ers’ Purdy in concussion protocol; Sunday status iffy

-

San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy is in concussion protocol, putting the 23-year-old’s Sunday status in question. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy reported symptoms on the flight home after San Francisco’s Week 7 loss at Minnesota and noted Purdy could play without practicing if he clears the protocol. Sam Darnold will start at quarterback if Purdy can’t play, Shanahan said. Darnold, 26, was 21-34 in 55 starts with the New York Jets and Carolina.

■ Chiefs: The surgery linebacker Nick Bolton underwent Tuesday to repair a wrist fracture sustained in Week 7 did not require metal to be inserted for support, which could expedite the 23-year-old’s return to the field, coach Andy Reid said. Bolton, who wasn’t placed on injured reserve, has missed three games this season because of an ankle injury. He had 180 tackles in 2022.

■ Seahawks: Free-agent defensive end Frank Clark agreed to a deal with undisclosed terms. The 30-year-old threetime Pro Bowl pick, released Oct. 14 by Denver, spent his first four NFL seasons with Seattle before being traded to Kansas City in 2019 for a first- and a second-round draft pick. He has 58.5 regular-season sacks and 13.5 in 17 postseason games.

■ Browns: Quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) was ruled out for Sunday, and P.J. Walker will start in his place, coach Kevin Stefanski said. Watson, a 28-year-old three-time Pro Bowl pick, returned in Week 7 after missing the previous two games with the same injury — a right rotator cuff strain — but left after 12 plays.

■ Packers: Cornerback Eric Stokes (hamstring) and safety Darnell Savage (calf) were placed on IR after both were hurt in Week 7. Stokes, a 2021 first-round draft pick, was hurt four plays into his season debut. He had been sidelined since sustaining injuries to his right foot and knee in Week 9 last season.

■ Titans: Rookie Will Levis will make his NFL debut Sunday if fellow quarterback Ryan Tannehill (ankle) is sidelined, though coach Mike Vrabel did not confirm Levis would start, noting Levis and second-year QB Malik Willis would see action.
