Jets QB Rodgers aims for return to practice around his 40th birthday

-

Aaron Rodgers hopes to celebrate his 40th birthday by returning to practice. The four-time NFL MVP turns 40 on Dec. 2. The New York Jets quarterback continues to recover from a torn left Achilles tendon suffered four snaps into his debut with the team on Sept. 11. Rodgers confirmed Tuesday during his weekly appearance on “The Pat Mcafee Show” he’s “way ahead of common protocol.”

■ Colts: Indianapolis waived three-time All-pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard. The surprising move comes shortly after Leonard complained publicly about his playing time decreasing this season following two back surgeries.

■ Rams: Los Angeles waived running back Darrell Henderson for the second time in two seasons. The Rams dropped Henderson after a four-game return to the team with which he won the Super Bowl two seasons ago.

■ Ravens: Tight end Mark Andrews had surgery on his injured ankle, according to a person with knowledge of the operation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the procedure.

■ Steelers: Pittsburgh fired embattled offensive coordinator Matt Canada. The decision by coach Mike Tomlin came two days after the Steelers managed just 10 points in a loss to Cleveland.

■ Packers: Coach Matt Lafleur says running back Aaron Jones’ knee problem makes him “highly unlikely” to play Thursday at Detroit, but likely won’t require him to go on injured reserve.

■ Saints: Wide receiver Michael Thomas has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced. Thomas will miss at least four games with a knee injury.

■ Browns: Quarterback Deshaun Watson had surgery in Los Angeles to repair a fracture in his right shoulder.
