No. 2 Purdue uses late rally to defeat No. 7 Tennessee

HONOLULU — Fletcher Loyer scored 27 points, Zach Edey had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds and No. 2 Purdue escaped with a 71-67 win over No. 7 Tennessee in the Maui Invitation­al semifinals. The Boilermake­rs separated in the final minutes with a game-closing 10-6 run. After he scored 13 points in the first half to help give the Volunteers a 31-30 halftime lead, Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht was held to just three points after the break. Jordan Gainey scored all of his 15 points in the second half.

■ No. 4 Marquette 73, No. 1 Kansas 59: At Honolulu, Oso Ighodaro scored 21 points and had nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles (5-0), who knocked off the top-ranked Jayhawks (4-1). Kevin Mccullar Jr. led Kansas with 24 points and added eight rebounds.

■ No. 9 Duke 95, La Salle 66: At Durham, N.C., sophomore guard Tyrese Proctor scored a career-high 22 for the Blue Devils (4-1), who won for the third time in eight nights. Anwar Gil scored 17 points for the Explorers (4-1), who shot 41.4 percent.

■ No. 11 Gonzaga 76, Syracuse 57: At Honolulu, Nolan Hickman scored 12 of his team-high 19 points in the second half for the Bulldogs (3-1), who outrebound­ed the Orange (3-2) 48-28.

■ No. 22 James Madison 82, Southern Illinois 76: At Cancun, Mexico, Terrence Edwards scored 24 for Dukes (50), who shot 53 percent. Xavier Johnson had a career-high 38-point performanc­e for the Salukis (3-1).

■ Florida State 77, No. 18 Colorado 71: At Daytona Beach, Fla., Jamir Watkins had 18 points and 11 rebounds in overtime to lead the Seminoles (4-1) in the Sunshine Slam championsh­ip game and extend their NCAA record to 14 consecutiv­e overtime victories. Cody Williams led the Buffaloes (4-1) with 17 points.

Mountain West

■ Fresno State 81, New Mexico State 76: At Cancun, Mexico, Isaiah Hill scored 21 points for the Bulldogs (3-1), who took down the Aggies (3-3) in overtime. Robert Carpenter led New Mexico State with 20 points.

■ Utah State 79, Stephen F. Austin 49: At George Town, Cayman Islands, Mason Falslev had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Aggies (5-1), who outshot the Lumberjack­s (4-2) 55-33 percent.
