Central Florida surges for victory over No. 3 Kansas

Jaylin Sellers scored 18 points and Darius Johnson 17 to help host Central Florida overcome a 16-point first-half deficit to beat No. 3 Kansas 65-60 on Wednesday.

The loss by the Jayhawks (13-2, 1-1 Big 12) came one night after No. 1 Purdue and No. 2 Houston lost.

Ibrahima Diallo put the Knights (10-4, 1-1) ahead to stay with a hook shot over center Hunter Dickinson with 2:58 left and then blocked a shot by K.J. Adams Jr. with 50 seconds to go in UCF’S first Big 12 victory.

Kevin Mccullar Jr. scored 16 points for Kansas, which led 37-29 at intermissi­on before missing 15 of its final 22 shots.

Diallo had 13 points and five rebounds.

■ No. 4 Connecticu­t 80, Xavier 75:

At Cincinnati, Cam Spencer had 19 points to lead five double-figure scorers for the Huskies (14-2, 4-1 Big East), who shot 54.4 percent and held the Musketeers (7-8, 1-3) to 35.9 percent. Uconn was outrebound­ed 42-30, including 20-8 on the offensive end.

■ Mississipp­i State 77, No. 5 Tennessee 72: At Starkville, Miss., Tolu Smith converted a three-point play with 14.7 seconds left and totaled 23 points for the Bulldogs (12-3, 1-1 SEC) in their first win over a top-five team since beating Oklahoma in December 2002. Freshman Josh Hubbard led MSU with 25 points. Dalton Knecht scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half for the Volunteers (11-4, 1-1), who also got 26 points from

Zakai Zeigler.

■ No. 7 North Carolina 67, North Carolina State 54: At Raleigh, N.C., R.J. Davis had 16 points and Harrison Ingram 19 rebounds for the Tar Heels (12-3, 4-0 ACC), which overcame 38.7 percent shooting by holding the Wolfpack (11-4, 3-1) to 26.9 percent. N.C. State missed 19 of 21 3-point tries.

■ Texas Christian 80, No. 9 Oklahoma 71: At Fort Worth, Texas, Emanuel Miller had 27 points and nine rebounds for the Horned Frogs (12-3, 1-1 Big 12), who became the fifth unranked team in two nights to beat a top-10 foe. The Sooners (13-2, 1-1) had 14 turnovers while forcing only seven.

■ Butler 69, No. 11 Marquette 62: At Milwaukee, Jalen Thomas had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs (11-5, 2-3 Big East), who held reigning league player of the year Tyler Kolek to two points on 1-for-13 shooting. Marquette led 35-28 at halftime.

■ No. 13 Memphis 107, Texas-san Antonio 101, OT: At Memphis, Tenn., Jahvon Quinerly scored nine of his 25 points in overtime for the Tigers (14-2, 3-0 AAC), who shot 53.7 percent. Jordan Ivycurry had 28 points for the Roadrunner­s (7-9, 1-2), who led for most of the first half and by 37-35 at intermissi­on.

■ No. 15 Wisconsin 71, Ohio State 60: At Columbus, Ohio, Max Klesmit scored all of his 18 points after intermissi­on for the Badgers (12-3, 4-0 Big Ten), who overcame a seven-point first-half deficit. Jamison Battle had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Buckeyes (12-4, 2-3).

■ Virginia Tech 87, No. 21 Clemson

72: At Blacksburg, Va., Sean Pedula hit six 3-pointers and totaled 32 points for the Hokies (10-5, 2-2 ACC), who shot 54.4 percent and dealt the Tigers (11-4, 1-3) their third straight loss.

Top 10 women

■ No. 3 Iowa 96, Purdue 71: At West Lafayette, Ind., Caitlin Clark had 26 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for her 15th triple-double and fourth this season for the Hawkeyes (16-1, 5-0 Big Ten), who hit 15 3-pointers in their 13th straight win. The Boilermake­rs (9-6, 2-2) trailed by at least 11 points in the second half.

■ Kansas 87, No. 4 Baylor 66: At Lawrence, Kan., Taiyanna Jackson had 27 points and 19 rebounds for the Jayhawks (8-7, 1-3 Big 12), who used a 16-0 run spanning halftime to erase an eight-point deficit and didn’t trail again. Kansas hadn’t beaten a top-five team in 15 years. The Bears (14-1, 3-1) were outscored 56-32 in the paint.

■ No. 10 Texas 72, Texas Christian 60: At Austin, Texas, freshman Madison Booker had 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Longhorns (16-1, 3-1

Big 12), who are 25-1 against the Horned Frogs (14-3, 1-3) at home. TCU had 23 turnovers.
