Iowa’s Clark reaches No. 2 on scoring list

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark moved into second on the NCAA women’s basketball scoring list Wednesday, totaling 35 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in the No. 3 Hawkeyes’ 11074 victory over host Northweste­rn.

Iowa (20-2, 9-1 Big Ten) won its second straight since an overtime loss at Ohio State on Jan. 21, and the Wildcats (7-14, 2-8) lost their fifth in a row. Cheered on by a sellout crowd at Welsh-ryan Arena filled with Hawkeyes colors and dotted with Clark shirts, the senior went 11-for22 from the field made 10 of 10 free throws in her 13th game this season with at least 30 points.

Clark passed Missouri State guard Jackie Stiles for third on the NCAA list when she made a 3-pointer with 2:04 left in the first quarter. She moved ahead of Ohio State guard Kelsey Mitchell when she converted a layup with 4:58 left in the first half.

Clark finished with 3,424 points, departing to a big ovation with 4:23 to go. Next up is Aces guard Kelsey Plum, who starred at Washington from 2013 to ’17 and tops the women’s scoring list with 3,527 points.

■ Oklahoma 66, No. 2 Kansas State 63: At Norman, Okla., Skylar Vann scored 21 points for the Sooners (14-6, 8-1 Big 12), who halted a 14-game win streak by the Wildcats (21-2, 10-1). Oklahoma had a 15-10 fourth-quarter scoring edge despite not making a field goal in the final 3:04.

■ No. 10 Indiana 87, Maryland 73: At College Park, Md., Mackenzie Holmes scored 23 and Sara Scalia 22 for the Hoosiers (18-2, 9-1 Big Ten), who never trailed in their first road win over the Terrapins (12-9, 4-6). Top 25 men

■ No. 1 Connecticu­t 74, Providence 65: At Storrs, Conn., Stephon Castle scored 20 points for the Huskies (19-2, 9-1 Big East), Josh Oduro scored 20 points for the Friars (14-7, 5-5), and both fouled out. Fortyeight fouls were called — 28 against Providence.

■ No. 2 Purdue 105, Northweste­rn 96, OT: At West Lafayette, Ind., Zach Edey scored 10 of his 30 points in overtime and had 15 rebounds for the Boilermake­rs (20-2, 9-2 Big Ten), who had lost two straight to the Wildcats (15-6, 6-4). Boo Buie and Ty Berry each scored 25 points for Northweste­rn.

■ Florida 94, No. 10 Kentucky 91, OT: At Lexington, Ky., Walter Clayton Jr. scored 23 points for the Gators (15-6, 5-3 SEC), including a tying 3-pointer with three seconds left in regulation and a go-ahead 3 with 1:42 to go in overtime. Reed Sheppard had 24 points for the Wildcats (15-5, 5-3) in a game with 29 lead changes and 15 ties.

■ No. 16 Auburn 81, Vanderbilt 54: At Auburn, Ala., Jaylin Williams scored 21 points for the Tigers (17-4, 6-2 SEC), who held the Commodores (5-15, 0-7) to 26.8 percent shooting.

■ No. 18 Baylor 77, Central Florida 69: At Orlando, Fla., Langston Love scored 24 points, including a 3-pointer with five minutes left to cap a 7-0 run that put the Bears (15-5, 4-3 Big 12) ahead to stay. The Knights (12-8, 3-5) shot 54.0 percent while hitting 14 of 27 3-point tries.

■ No. 24 Alabama 85, Georgia 76: At Athens, Ga., Mark Sears scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half for the Crimson Tide (15-6, 7-1 SEC), including the goahead 3-pointer with 4:09 left. The Bulldogs (14-7, 4-4) led by 16 before intermissi­on.

Mountain West men

■ Boise State 86, No. 19 New Mexico 78: At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., Max Rice scored 35 points for the Broncos (15-6, 6-2), who halted a five-game win streak by the Lobos (18-4, 6-3) and dealt them their first loss in 12 home games this season.
