No. 12 Auburn coasts past No. 16 Alabama

Jaylin Williams scored 26 points and Johni Broome 24 to lead No. 12 Auburn past No. 16 Alabama 99-81 on Wednesday in Auburn, Alabama, to move into a tie atop the Southeaste­rn Conference.

The Tigers (19-4, 8-2 SEC) are tied with the Crimson Tide (16-7, 8-2) and No. 15 South Carolina. They held the nation’s top-scoring offense to 37.3 percent shooting two weeks after Alabama halted their 11-game win streak with a 79-75 victory in Tuscaloosa.

Mark Sears scored 25 points for the Crimson Tide, who were trying to win their fourth straight in the rivalry — something neither team had done since 2012.

Auburn stretched a 14-point intermissi­on lead to 20 early in the second half. Alabama didn’t trim it to single digits, even with the Tigers missing nine straight shots over a seven-minute span.

■ No. 6 Tennessee 88, Louisiana State 68: At Knoxville, Tenn., Dalton Knecht had 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Volunteers (17-5,

Michigan had yielded an average of 82 points in its previous 11 games, losing 10.

Seton Hall 34: At Hartford, Conn., Aaliyah Edwards had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Huskies (20-4, 12-0 Big East), who gave coach Geno Auriemma his 1,200th win. The 69-year-old joined former Duke men’s coach Mike Krzyzewski (1,202) and Stanford’s Tara Vanderveer (1,206) as the lone Division I coaches with 1,200 victories. The Pirates (13-10, 5-7) missed 20 of 22 first-half fieldgoal tries and trailed 29-12 at intermissi­on.
