Mcmann gets his first hat trick as Leafs defeat Blues

TORONTO — Bobby Mcmann registered the first hat trick of his NHL career as the short-handed Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-1 on

Tuesday night.

William Nylander had the other goal for Toronto. Ilya Samsonov made 14 saves.

Alexey Toropchenk­o scored for St. Louis, which entered 7-1-0 over its last eight games. Jordan Binnington stopped 28 shots in defeat.

Toronto — 14-2-1 without Rielly in 2022-23 — opened the scoring at 5:33 of the first period when Mcmann fought off Blues captain Brayden Schenn along the boards before stuffing home his third goal of the season.

The Leafs doubled their lead at 16:25 when Nylander’s pass hit the stick of St. Louis rookie defenseman Matthew Kessel and fluttered past a helpless Binnington for the winger’s 26th.

The visitors cut the deficit to 2-1 at 5:36 when Toropchenk­o tipped in his ninth. Kessel picked up the secondary assist for the blueliner’s first NHL point in his 19th game.

Mcmann scored his second of the evening at 8:02 of the third when he collected a loose puck and roofed a shot upstairs on a night where the Leafs needed their depth players to step up.

■ Canadiens 5, Ducks 0: At Montreal, Nick Suzuki had two goals and an assist to back Cayden Primeau, who faced little action, making 13 saves.

■ Avalanche 6, Capitals 3: At Washington, Artturi Lehkonen had two goals and two assists to help Colorado snap a four-game losing streak.

■ Oilers 8, Red Wings 4: At Edmonton, Alberta, Connor Mcdavid had a careerhigh six assists as Edmonton won its eighth straight at home.

■ Senators 6, Blue Jackets 3: At Ottawa, Ontario, Brady Tkachuk recorded the second hat trick of his career as Ottawa won its fourth straight.

■ Kraken 2, Islanders 1: At New York, Tomas Tatar scored the lone goal in a shootout as the Kraken snapped a threegame losing streak.

■ Canucks 4, Blackhawks 2: At Chicago, Conor Garland scored twice, and Dakota Joshua added a goal and and two assists for Vancouver.

■ Devils 4, Predators 2: At Nashville, Tenn., Nico Hischier scored twice to back Nico Daws, who made 30 saves for the Devils.
