Colorado State handles No. 23 UNR in quarters

Jalen Lake scored 16 points, Isaiah Stevens added 15, and Colorado State beat No. 23-ranked UNR 85-78 on Thursday in the quarterfin­als of the Mountain West men’s basketball tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Rams (24-9), the No. 7 seed, face either Boise State or New Mexico in the semifinals Friday. Nique Clifford had 14 points and nine rebounds for Colorado State, which never trailed after the 17:06 mark of the first half.

Jared Lucas led the second-seeded Wolf Pack (26-7) with 18 points.

■ Utah State 87, Fresno State 75, OT: Great Osobor had 29 points and 17 rebounds as the top-seeded and No. 18-ranked Aggies (27-5) survived a scare against the No. 9-seeded Bulldogs (12-21). Utah State will play No. 5 San Diego State in the semifinals Friday. Jalen Weaver scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs. Afterward, Fresno State coach Justin Hutson announced he was stepping down after six seasons and a 92-94 record. Pac-12

■ Arizona 70, Southern California 49: At T-mobile Arena, KJ Lewis led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points and the topseeded and No. 6-ranked Wildcats (25-7) avenged a loss to end the regular season by rolling past the ninth-seeded Trojans (15-18) in the quarterfin­als. Arizona plays Oregon in the semifinals Friday.

■ Oregon 68, UCLA 66: N’faly Dante scored 22 points, including a jump hook with 37 seconds left, and the No. 4-seeded Ducks (21-11) held off a late rally to beat the Bruins in the quarterfin­als. Dylan Andrews had 24 points to lead fifth-seeded UCLA (16-17), but his shot to send the game to overtime hit the back of the rim as time expired.

■ Washington State 79, Stanford 62: Isaac Jones led six players in double figures with 16 points, and the second-seeded and No. 22-ranked Cougars beat the No. 10 seed Cardinal in the quarterfin­als. Washington State (24-8) faces No. 3 seed Colorado in Friday’s semifinals. Spencer Jones had 22 points to lead Stanford (14-18), which announced after the game that it had fired coach Jerod Haase.

■ Hawaii 75, Cal State Northridge

68: At Dollar Loan Center, Justin Mckoy finished with 16 points to lift the thirdseede­d Rainbow Warriors (20-13) past the No. 7 Matadors (19-15) in the quarterfin­als. Hawaii (20-13) meets No. 2 seed UC Davis in the semifinals Friday.

At Orleans Arena, Cameron Tyson had 18 points, and the No. 4-seeded Redhawks (1913) rolled past the No. 8 Lancers (16-17) in the quarterfin­als. Seattle plays top-seeded Grand Canyon in the semifinals Friday.
