Kelsey hired to coach Louisville after leading Charleston to two CAA titles
Louisville reached an agreement with Charleston coach Pat Kelsey to become the Cardinals’ coach. The 48-yearold went 75-27 in three seasons with the Cougars, winning the past two Colonial Athletic Association regular-season and tournament titles. The Cincinnati native previously went 186-95 in nine seasons at Winthrop.
■ Missouri State: Cuonzo Martin was hired as coach, signing a five-year deal with a $600,000 base salary plus incentives. The 52-year-old went 61-41 with the Bears from 2008 to ’11 before three-year stints leading Tennessee and California and five seasons at Missouri, ending in 2022. He has a 264-198 career record.
■ CBI final: At Daytona Beach, Fla., Cameron Tyson scored 30 points to lead Seattle past High Point 77-67.
The Redhawks (23-14) closed on an 11-0 run over the final 1:56. The Panthers (27-9) shot 37.7 percent while missing 20 of 24 3-point tries.
■ CIT final: At Norfolk, Va., Christian Ings hit a goahead 3-pointer with 9:11 left and totaled 17 points to lead Norfolk State past Purdue-fort Wayne 75-67. The Spartans (24-11) shot 54.9 percent while holding the Mastodons (23-13) to 35.5 percent.
■ Pacific: Dave Smart was hired as coach. The 58-year-old, who spent this season as a Texas Tech assistant, previously went 591-48 in 18 years as Carleton University coach in Ottawa, Ontario.
■ Florida Atlantic: John Jakus will be hired as coach, ESPN reported. The 42-year-old spent the past seven seasons as a Baylor assistant after three years as a Gonzaga aide.
■ Iowa: Forward Patrick Mccaffery entered the NCAA transfer portal with one season of eligibility. The son of coach Fran Mccaffrey averaged 8.9 points per game in 2023-24.
