Rooker, A’s lone All-star last season, lands on IL
Oakland right fielder Brent Rooker (rib cartilage strain) was placed on the 10-day injured list, and utility player Max Schuemann’s contract was selected from the Aviators. Rooker, 29, hitting .200 with two homers through eight games, was the Athletics’ lone All-star last season, when he hit .246 with 30 homers, 69 RBIS and an .817 OPS in 137 games — leading the A’s in homers, RBIS, OPS, plate appearances (526) and slugging percentage (.488).
■ Red Sox: Middle infielder Vaughn Grissom (left hamstring strain), sidelined since February, will begin a rehabilitation assignment Friday with Triple-a Worcester. The 23-year-old, who hit .287 in 64 games with Atlanta over the past two seasons, was acquired in December for left-hander Chris Sale.
■ Rangers: First baseman Nathaniel Lowe (right oblique strain), who hasn’t played this season, is to begin a rehabilitation assignment Friday with Double-a Frisco. The 28-year-old reigning Gold Glove winner and 2022 Silver Slugger winner missed a total of 11 games the past three years.
■ Angels: Right-hander Chase Silseth could return in three weeks after an MRI examination on his right elbow showed only inflammation and no structural damage. The 23-year-old College of Southern Nevada product was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday.
■ Orioles: Reliever Yohan Ramirez was acquired from the New York Mets for cash considerations. The 28-year-old right-hander will join his sixth team since breaking into the majors in 2020 with Seattle. He has a 4.31 ERA in 129 1/3 innings.
