RW Silfverber­g to retire after 11 years with Ducks

Anaheim right wing Jakob Silfverber­g said he will retire after this season. The 33-year-old Swede has spent 11 of his 12 NHL seasons with the Ducks, serving as an alternate captain the past five years. Considered one of the NHL’S top defensive forwards in his prime, Silfverber­g ranks fifth in franchise history in goals and games played and third in short-handed goals.

■ Wrestling: Two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Frank Chamizo claimed he turned down a $300,000 bribe to deliberate­ly lose a match last week at an Olympic qualifying tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan. The 31-year-old competes for Italy after emigrating from Cuba in 2011.

■ Motor sports: Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso signed a contract extension to stay with Aston Martin for at least the next two seasons. The 42-year-old Spaniard, who had six top-three finishes in the first eight races last season, had been linked to a possible move to Mercedes.

■ Football: Southern Methodist wide receiver Teddy Knox was suspended indefinite­ly after being identified as the second driver — along with Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice — that caused a recent chain-reaction crash in Dallas.

■ Tennis: At Monaco, top-ranked Novak Djokovic returned to the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfin­als by beating Lorenzo Musetti 7-5, 6-3. A two-time Monte Carlo champion, Djokovic lost to Musetti in the third round last year.

■ Soccer: The English Premier League will use artificial intelligen­ce-based player tracking technology to make offside calls starting next season in a move that should reduce the time it takes officials to reach decisions.
