Kings douse Flames, tighten grip on third place in Pacific

Viktor Arvidsson scored twice to back Cam Talbot, who stopped 23 shots, as host Los Angeles beat Calgary 4-1 on Thursday. Kevin Fiala opened the scoring with a first-period power-play goal, and rookie Akil Thomas scored his third goal in his fifth NHL game for the Kings, who tightened their grip on third place in the Pacific Division. They have 95 points in 79 games; the Golden Knights have 92 points in 78 games.

■ Penguins 6, Red Wings 5, OT: At Pittsburgh, defenseman Erik Karlsson scored 1:40 into overtime as Pittsburgh improved to 5-0-1 in its past six games and leapfrogge­d Washington for the East’s second wild card. Sidney Crosby set up Karlsson’s winner to become the 14th NHL player with 1,000 assists. Crosby totaled a goal and two assists to pass Phil Esposito into 10th place on the NHL’S all-time scoring list. Lucas Raymond scored three goals for Detroit.

■ Devils 6, Maple Leafs 5: At Toronto, Jesper Bratt broke a 5-all tie with his second third-period goal as New Jersey overcame Auston Matthews’ Nhl-high 67th and 68th goals this season. He has the most goals in a season since Pittsburgh center Mario Lemieux scored 69 in 1995-96. Timo Meier had two goals and an assist for the Devils, who were outshot 32-20.

■ Jets 3, Stars 0: At Dallas, ex-golden Knight Laurent Brossoit stopped 24 shots in his sixth shutout and third this season, and David Gustafsson scored on his 24th birthday as Winnipeg won its fifth straight and prevented Dallas from clinching the Central Division title. The Stars, shut out at home for the first time this season, had won 10 of their previous 11 games.

■ Panthers 4, Blue Jackets 0: At Sunrise, Fla., Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 25 shots in his 44th shutout and sixth this season, and Sam Reinhart scored his 54th goal this season as Florida moved within one point of Boston atop the Atlantic Division. Jet Greaves had 42 saves for Columbus.

■ Senators 3, Lightning 2, SO: At Tampa, Fla., Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist in regulation and scored the lone shootout goal as Ottawa won for the second time in six games. NHL points leader Nikita Kucherov had two assists for Tampa Bay to give him 98 this season.

■ Sharks 3, Kraken 1: At Seattle, Kyle Burroughs and Fabian Zetterlund scored 51 seconds apart in the second period to back Devin Cooley, who stopped 49 shots in his fourth NHL start, as San Jose won for the third time in 16 games. Seattle had a 50-23 edge in shots.

■ Sabres 4, Capitals 2: At Buffalo, N.Y., exgolden Knight Alex Tuch scored his 22nd goal this season for Buffalo to back Ukko-pekka Luukkonen, who stopped 22 shots, and Washington lost for the seventh time in eight games.

■ Flyers 4, Rangers 1: At New York, Travis Konecny had a goal and an assist to back Samuel Ersson, who stopped 24 shots, as Philadelph­ia halted an eight-game slide. New York had won seven in a row against the Flyers.

■ Islanders 3, Canadiens 2, OT: At New York, Kyle Palmieri scored 1:17 into overtime, extending his goal streak to four games, as New York won its sixth straight.
