UMC revitalizes hospital campus with historic project

-

With the largest renovation project in the hospital’s 93-year history, UMC continues to rapidly transform its 26-acre campus in the heart of the Las Vegas Medical District.

UMC broke ground on the historic UMC REVITALIZE project in April 2023, initiating a multi-year renovation that includes upgrading and modernizing the façade of every building across the hospital’s campus, in addition to the development of two healing gardens. The project also will provide new campus lighting, refreshed landscaping, upgraded signage and parking lots, and improved access for vehicles and pedestrians.

“Thanks to UMC’S historic financial turnaround throughout the past decade, we now have the opportunity to fully revitalize our campus and support the continued growth and evolution of Nevada’s most sophisticated health care system,” said UMC CEO Mason Van Houweling. “This valuable project will continue to put UMC on the map, building upon our strong position as Nevada’s health care leader.”

The project has reached the halfway mark and remains on schedule for completion in the summer of 2025. The hospital’s world-renowned Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital building at 800 Hope Place has already experienced a full transformation, with modern exterior design finishes, along with upgraded lighting and signage.

In addition, the first of two oncampus healing gardens will soon open its door, providing patients and visitors with a serene, welcoming outdoor space to provide comfort and promote reflection during challenging times. These healing gardens will play a valuable role in further elevating the hospital experience for patients and their loved ones, including those who rely on the highly specialized care that is only available in Nevada at UMC.

UMC has grown significantly from its humble beginnings in 1931 as a one-room hospital with one doctor and one nurse. Today, UMC cares for hundreds of thousands of patients each year while offering Nevada’s only Level I Trauma Center, Verified Burn Center and Center for Transplantation, in addition to the state’s most advanced clinical technology.

“UMC is home to Nevada’s highest level of care, and it’s time for our campus to reflect the world-class and exclusive treatment our dedicated team members deliver inside these walls every day,” Van Houweling said.
