Breakthrou­gh by Langeliers helps A’s split

Shea Langeliers has been pounding his hometown Texas Rangers.

The Oakland catcher hit a two-run homer, a two-run double and an RBI triple in the first game of a doublehead­er and drove in another three runs in Game 2 as the host Athletics split the two games with Texas on Wednesday.

The A’s won the first game 9-4, and the Rangers held on for a 12-11 win in the nightcap.

Oakland scored four runs in the ninth before Kirby Yates earned his seventh save by retiring Tyler Nevin on a fly to right with two runners on.

Langeliers hit a two-run homer and a runscoring groundout in the second game, topping Reggie Jackson for the Oakland record for RBIS in a doublehead­er. Jackson drove in seven on Aug. 24, 1969. Langeliers has 21 RBIS against the Rangers, his most against any foe.

■ Dodgers 3, Marlins 1: At Los Angeles, Teoscar Hernandez hit an RBI single in the first and a two-run homer in the sixth to back Gavin Stone (3-1), who allowed one run over seven innings in Los Angeles’ sixth straight win.

■ Padres 3, Cubs 0: At Chicago, Luis Arraez singled twice and scored twice to back Dylan Cease (5-2), who struck out 12 in seven shutout innings. Chicago totaled one hit — Yan Gomes’ slow roller in the third.

■ Braves 5, Red Sox 0: At Atlanta, Marcell Ozuna hit a three-run homer and a solo shot to back Chris Sale (5-1), who struck out 10 in six shutout innings against his ex-team.

■ Twins 6, Mariners 3: At Minneapoli­s, Carlos Correa and Trevor Larnach hit consecutiv­e homers in the first to help Chris Paddack (4-1) win his fourth straight start.

■ White Sox 4, Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Paul Dejong hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth to back Chris Flexen (2-3), who allowed one run in six innings.

■ Blue Jays 5, Phillies 3: At Philadelph­ia, Kevin Kiermaier had three hits and two RBIS for Toronto, which halted Philadelph­ia’s seven-game win streak.

■ Diamondbac­ks 4, Reds 3: At Cincinnati, Jordan Montgomery (2-2) held Cincinnati to two runs in seven innings.

■ Orioles 7, Nationals 6: At Washington, Jorge Mateo hit a go-ahead RBI single in the 12th for Baltimore, which blew two-run leads in the ninth and 11th.

■ Guardians 5, Tigers 4: At Cleveland, Brayan Rocchio hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th after David Fry had a tying homer in the Cleveland ninth.

■ Yankees 9, Astros 4: At New York, Juan Soto went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, two RBI singles and a run-scoring groundout.

■ Angels 5, Pirates 4: At Pittsburgh, Jo Adell homered and hit an RBI single for Los Angeles, which won its first series since April 1-3.

■ Royals 6, Brewers 4: At Kansas City, Mo., Bobby Witt Jr. homered, doubled and scored three runs for Kansas City.

■ Giants 8, Rockies 6: At Denver, Michael Conforto homered and singled in San Francisco’s six-run second.

■ Mets at Cardinals, ppd., rain: The game was reschedule­d for Aug. 5. PCL

■ Aviators 4, Express 2: At Round Rock, Texas, Armando Alvarez hit a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth for the Aviators (17-18), who drew 13 walks. Round Rock (18-16) had won four in a row and six of seven.
