Ex-bucks coach Budenholzer given five-year contract to guide Phoenix
Mike Budenholzer agreed to a five-year deal worth more than $50 million to be Phoenix’s coach, The Athletic reported. The 54-year-old took 2023-24 off after being fired by Milwaukee. He’s spent 10 seasons as an NBA coach split between Atlanta and the Bucks, going 484-317 in the regular season and 56-48 in the postseason, with nine playoff berths. He guided Milwaukee to the NBA title in 2020-21.
■ Jurisprudence: Former Illinois guard Terrence Shannon Jr. will stand trial for first-degree felony rape and felony sexual aggravated battery on June
10, a Kansas judge ruled. The alleged incident, which occurred Sept. 9, prompted Shannon to be suspended six games before a federal judge granted a temporary restraining order. The Chicago native averaged 23.0 points as a senior in 2023-24 and was a projected firstround NBA draft pick.
■ WNBA: Toronto was awarded an expansion franchise for 2026, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported. The league didn’t confirm the report. The team reportedly will play at the 8,000-seat Coca-cola Coliseum.
■ NCAA: Grand Canyon and Seattle will leave the Western Athletic Conference for the West Coast Conference in 2025-26, giving the WCC 11 full members for the first time.
