Ferby leads Western Kentucky to road victory
D’Andre Ferby scored a pair of touchdowns and Western Kentucky jumped on Louisiana Tech (7-5) early and made it hold up for a 30-15 win on Saturday at Ruston, La.
Western Kentucky (3-9, 2-6 Conference USA) took the opening drive 87 yards in 11 plays and scored on Lucky Jackson’s 18-yard touchdown run. On the Bulldogs’ ensuing drive, Devon Key intercepted J’Mar Smith on the first play and the Hilltoppers had the ball at Louisiana Tech’s 33.
The Hilltoppers made it 14-0 when Steven Duncan completed a 10-yard pass to Mik’Quan Deane. to get that ninth regular-season victory for this senior class, with Kash Daniel pointing out that while the contributions of this group on the field are notable, fans don’t see all of the work the seniors put in behind the scenes.
“Just the work of this class — not just physically but mentally and getting guys to fall in line, buy in day in and day out year after year after year,” said Daniel, who led the UK defense with eight tackles, including two for a loss. “This is the class that did it. It would be real cool to see us finish 9-3 in the regular season.”
Chris Oats added five tackles. Jordan Jones and Allen had four tackles apiece, including 1.5 for loss for Jones and a sack for Allen, who also was credited with a quarterback hurry.
