Jay-Z’s Made in America fest canceled again Judge rejects motion to toss Majors’ conviction

For the second year in a row, the Made in America festival has been canceled.

The 2024 version of the festival – which is curated by Jay-Z, and produced by his entertainment company Roc Nation in partnership with concert promoter Live Nation – has been called off.

The announcement was made on the festival’s social media accounts Wednesday.

Made in America was first staged on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia in 2012, with Jay-Z and Pearl Jam as headliners. It continued every year on Labor Day weekend until it was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, then resumed the following year. In 2022, Puerto Rican rap star Bad Bunny headlined the closing night of the festival, which drew a crowd of 50,000 to the main stage in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Rocky Steps.

Last year, MIA was canceled in August, after Lizzo, one of the two scheduled headliners along with SZA, was sued by many of her dancers for harassment, though no official reason was given for the festival’s cancellation.

The cancellation means a major loss of revenue for the city and festival workers, for the second year in a row.

Jonathan Majors will still face sentencing in his high-profile assault and harassment case, despite his legal team’s efforts to get his guilty verdict overturned.

The Times confirmed that this week, a New York judge rejected a motion to dismiss the actor’s December conviction, filed by his attorney in February. The former Marvel star, 34, was convicted in December of assault and harassment in March 2023 of ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

Majors’ sentencing is set for Monday. The actor was originally supposed to receive his sentence Feb. 6, but the motion prompted a delay. He faces up to a year in prison but could also be sentenced to probation.

Attorney Priya Chaudhry said Majors “feels disappointed by the outcome of the motion, yet he upholds respect for the process,” in a statement shared with The Times on Wednesday.

After a two-week trial in December, a Manhattan jury found Majors guilty of one count of assault in the third degree and one count of harassment in the second degree against Jabbari. He was also acquitted of a different assault charge and aggravated harassment.

Majors will receive his sentence less than a month after Jabbari, 31, sued him in civil court for battery, assault and defamation.
