The Simple Changes Diet
How Singer Ed Sheeran Dropped 50 Pounds:
The eating habits that a pop star can get away with while touring won’t necessarily fly at home, as Grammy winner Ed Sheeran discovered: After spending months on the road in 2015, Ed gained a significant amount of weight while eating the same way when he got home. “I didn’t realize how active I was on tour,” says Ed, now 26. “My diet was pizza and beer, but because I was doing two hours a night I was really in shape. I stopped touring and carried on my diet of pizza and beer. Suddenly I didn’t fit in anything. I was like, ‘All my clothes have shrunk.’”
HOLD MY BEER
To make his clothes fit again, Ed gave up his pizza-and-beer habit and began doing daily 10-minute hard- core interval workouts. Gradually, the crooner (famous for the hits “Sing,” “Thinking Out Loud” and “Shape of You”) lost 50 pounds. Though Wendy Bazilian, a doctor of public health and a dietitian in San Diego, didn’t work with Ed, she says, “He took simple, well- orchestrated steps to making changes, and that was brilliant in terms of what he accomplished.” In particular, adding green juices helped him work more nutrients and satiety into his diet. His commitment to exercising for 10 minutes a day without fail was also smart, Bazilian, author of Eat Clean, Stay Lean, says. “It’s not always about doing more incrementally; it’s about doing something to move every day, in any way.” These small tweaks to his routine added up to weight-loss gold for Ed. “Simple changes can be cumulative over time,” Bazilian says. “When you eat a little better, you might move better — one good health habit can beget another,” as Ed discovered.
